A Letter to Henry Branwell

Dear Henry,

You were a hero among Shadowhunters, and not very many understood or even acknowledged your accomplishments for what they were.  It's quite clear to me as well as your closest friends that your inventions, while most were ridiculous and even dangerous, have saved the Shadowhunters and the Downworld alike.  You should be remembered as a hero, and one of the best of the Shadowhunters, but unfortunately the majority of the ruling Clave are just as big of uptight assholes now as they were back in the 1800's.  While somethings have changed, much has stayed the same.  But for a brave few, descendants of yours and your closest friends.

The sensor that you created to sense when demon energies are near has been given to every Shadowhunter as part of their gear on missions out into the Downworld.  It's one of those items that every Shadowhunter carries with them everywhere, just like a witchlight rune stone.  Your and Charlotte's descendant Clary Fairchild will even use one to kill a demon, by shoving it down said demon's throat.  So, I guess you could say it's multi-versatile.

Then there is the portal that you designed and was perfected by yourself and the ever fabulous warlock Magnus Bane.  Today that portal is used far and wide by Shadowhunters all over the world, with of course the help of a helpful and well paid warlock.  Without the use of the portal the world would have less amazing, brave, and open minded Shadowhunters.  Such as Emma Carstairs and the Blackthorn siblings, led by Emma's Parabatai Julian Blackthorn.  These young Shadowhunters used a portal to escape from the Los Angeles Institute during the Dark War when Sebastian Morganstern was attacking Institutes all over the world.

Of course, more close to home for you, if you and Magnus hadn't perfected the portal the Downworld would have been decimated by The Magister, Axel Mortmain, and his Infernal Devices.  Will and Tessa would never have been able to escape Mortmain's clutches alone and defeat him if you and the Shadowhunters with you hadn't come to their aide when they did.  The Clave in London would have fallen, and next the entire downworld.  Essentially if it were not for you, Henry, and your inventions the world as we know it would not exist to day.

Without your and Charlotte's descendants we wouldn't have Clary Fairchild.  Without Will and Tessa's children we wouldn't have Jace Herondale, and even the Blackthorn children since they are descended from Lucie Herondale and Jesse Blackthorn.  Without Gabriel Lightwood marrying Cecily Herondale we wouldn't have Alec and Isabelle Lightwood.  So, as you can see without your inventions we wouldn't have any of our heroes from the war with Valentine and the Dark War with his son Sebastian.  Without them the world would be in flames.

You are one of the best, Henry, and you deserve to be given the credit and praise of one of the greatest Shadowhunters.  Thank you for all you have done to keep the Shadow World from falling and the mundane world from not knowing any of this even exists.  You're a hero to all of us that know all the things you've done, and helped to preserve.
